Very nice. I doubt I was the first one who mistook this manip as a painting, so congrats on that. You made a really strong image with "limited" resources. You made the most of them.
If there is anything to criticise it would be the penguin's shadow which seems slightly unnatural (it should be more... "uneven" in that snow) and the lack of focus which you can push by adding contrasts to the image. If you darken the edges and the ice, the sunlight and the animals will truly be the center of the image, even more than now.
Still, that's just nitpicking. As a whole, the image is beautifully done and playing with the fact that these two live on literally opposite ends of the earth gives it some extra laughs to boot.
I think most people would agree that this is adorable, at first sight. There's just something about big, bumbling bears, penguins, and the icy wasteland that appeals to the senses.
The photo manipulation is done wonderfully; at first I assumed it was a digital painting with use of stock images. I personally think it's much more difficult to make a a cohesive image with manipulation, so major props to you!
As a digital painter myself though, I suggest trying to focus the image even more than you have. I noticed how you used the coloring, from the pale teal to the warm yellow green, leading the eye from the bear, to the penguin (which is a wonderful positive space element, by the way), to the light and landscape beyond. Even more though! You can never push the composition enough, I say.
Try adding more cools to the edges, maybe make the blues darker. Push that brilliance of the light by making it so bright in contrast to everything else.
I'm not saying this needs any sort of retouching, though. It's already great, but keep the tips in mind for later!
Also, to wrap it up, I love the joke on the north and south pole meeting Just adorable and witty.
